This is not technically a schandmaske (16th century German punitive device) but having worn this I can tell you it definitely feels like punishment. There is not much story behind this piece other than I like the hideous visage of the female anglerfish and decided to make a mask resembling it. 

Piece is fairly dangerous, painful, heavy, and hinges open from the face.
